@BCUVolleyball Drops Season Opener at UNC Greensboro

Jacynta Williams posted 10 digs as Bethune-Cookman opened its 2022 season with a 3-0 (25-17,25-18,25-11) setback to UNC Greensboro Friday night.

UNCG’s Jocelyn Carter and Mya Wood each had 10 kills as the Spartans (1-0) hit .286 to post the three-set victory.

Jasmine Moore led Bethune-Cookman (0-1) with four kills, while freshman Jaedyn Newman registered three kills, two service aces and five digs in her B-CU debut.

Alleah Dallas, the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason Middle Blocker Of The Year, finished with three digs. Sophomore Madison Coates posted two service aces, five assists and four digs.

In the first set, a Moore kill gave B-CU an early 10-7 lead before the Spartans went on a 10-1 run for a 17-11 advantage. The Wildcats scored three unanswered points to cut it to 17-14, but the Spartans answered with a four-point run to pull away.

Bethune-Cookman fell behind 5-0 in the second set, but got it back to 7-6 on a block by Mecca Freeman and Malina Spencer. UNC Greensboro opened up a 17-10 lead, and the Wildcats got as close as 17-14 on a Dallas block but could pull no closer.

The Wildcats face North Carolina A&T Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and then Coppin State at 4 p.m.
