Daytona State women’s soccer wins in 2OT, faces Titans in Region 8 final Saturday

Eastern Florida State College issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.

The Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team will play Daytona State College Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Region 8 Tournament final after the Falcons win on Thursday.

Daytona State College defeated Polk State College 2-1 in double overtime Thursday night at Orlando Health Stadium as Isabella Da Silva hit a shot from outside the box that hit the back of the net with three minutes and three seconds left in the second overtime.

After a scoreless first half, both teams had good chances early in the second half. With 39 minutes remaining, Elena Diaz Trujillo put the Falcons on the board. But less than five minutes later, Polk State College tied the match as Raisa Lugo took a short corner kick, beat a defender and hit a shot that found the back of the net.

The win was the fourth of the season for Daytona State College who advances to the final for the third straight year. The Titans are in the final for the 11th straight season and have won 10 in a row. This season, the Titans are 2-0 against Daytona State College but both games were one-goal wins by EFSC. Sophomore Paula Garrido has scored three goals this season against Daytona State College.

Eastern Florida State College comes into the championship game as the No. 3 team in the NJCAA Division I poll and are 5-1-3 on the season. Admission is free to attend games at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus. You can watch Saturday’s game live online Saturday at 7 p.m. on EFSC Titans YouTube page.
