Daytona State College issued the following announcement on July 27.

For the tenth consecutive year, Daytona State (FL) recorded the highest GPA amongst all NJCAA Baseball programs with a 3.88 cumulative GPA.  This marks the 14th time in the last 15 seasons that the Falcons have earned the honor.

There were 12 players on the roster that earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the entire year.

The 3.88 GPA earned over the 2020-2021 academic year is the highest in Daytona State baseball program history. The previous record GPA was 3.85 by the 2019-2020 team.

Tim Touma, Daytona State Baseball HBC, was asked about his program winning the award,

“This is a great accomplishment for our players and is special because it is the best team GPA we’ve ever had here at Daytona State. We have an outstanding group of young men that have placed a great deal of importance on their performance, not just on the baseball field, but in the classroom as well. The support system for our student-athletes in our baseball program is fantastic. This award is not possible without the help from our administration and support staff.”

Touma continued, “Daytona State College President Dr. Thomas LoBasso, Athletic Director Will Dunne, and Interim Athletic Director Robin Barr have lead the way in creating a culture of academic success with in the entire Daytona State College Athletic Department. Our academic advisors, Cindy Iafanti and Alison Mohr, do much more than just help our student athletes with classes. They take an interest in their lives and develop relationships with our kids that will extend far past graduation. They have been invaluable to the success for our athletic department, our Falcon baseball program but most importantly for our student athletes.”
