Daytona State College issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.

The Daytona State Men’s Cross Country team will head to Valdosta, Georgia on Friday, September 3rd for the Border Clash hosted by Valdosta State University.  The Falcons will

travel veteran runners Andy Martinez and Tyler Baker who will lead a group of talented freshmen, including Mitchell Curtis, Christian Ruocco, Sebastian Hernandez, Christian

Pastrana, and Darnell Rooplal.  The last trip to Valdosta for the Falcons was in 2019 where they placed 5th overall.  The team competition includes all four Region 8 rivals and

strong NCAA Division 2 teams such as Valdosta State, Flagler, University of Tampa, and Florida Southern.  The race distance for the men is a non traditional 7.25 kilometers, which

is equal to approximately 4.5 miles.  Coach Judy Wilson, in her fourth year for the Falcons, says the goal is a consistent pace throughout the race.  “For our freshmen, this will be

their first race over the traditional high school distance of 5k. Having Martinez and Baker out there will certainly help them figure out a strategy as the race progresses.  Catch the
