Alex Hernandez, a former catcher for the Nova Southeastern Baseball program, has signed a professional contract with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League. Hernandez, the newest “Shark in the Pros,” will make his professional baseball debut on Tuesday evening against the Windy City ThunderBolts.  

The Gateway Grizzlies (Sauget, IL.) are in the West Division of the Frontier League and are currently 9-6 in the 2022 season.  

Hernandez played in 41 games during his senior season at Nova Southeastern, batting 0.255 on the season, while hitting seven home runs and driving in 30. Hernandez excelled behind the plate for the Sharks, throwing out 55% of base stealers in 2022. For his career at NSU, Hernandez appeared in 102 games, hitting 0.255, with 11 home runs and 46 runs batted in.
