Eastern Florida State College recently issued the following announcement.

The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team finished fifth overall at the Battle at the Shores event at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.

On a windy afternoon, the Titans struggled a bit shooting a 301 to finish fifth in a 16-team event that featured mostly NCAA Division II teams. Host Barry University won the event by 14 strokes over Nova Southeastern.

The fifth-place finish is the best finish for a Titans team since 2017 when EFSC placed fourth in the event.

John Houchin shot a 73 in the final round to finish 1-over 214 for the tournament which was good for sixth place overall. Teammate Matt Gauntlett finished 6-over to tie for 21st overall and Drew Lanier tied for 29th at 8-over. Ryan McMillan shot a 76 and finished tied for 36th while Brandon Boncore was tied for 67th overall.

“Tough day today. Wind blew a constant 15-20 and we struggled with the course set-up,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “We have two weeks to prepare for districts and time for everyone to sharpen up.”

The Titans will compete in the Collegiate Cup event against Florida Tech on April 21 and 22 before heading to the NJCAA District 4 Championships.
