Eastern Florida State College issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.

The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team shot one of the best rounds of the day to finish fifth in the Invite at Innisbrook at Copperhead Golf Course in Palm Harbor.

The team finished the three-round tournament at 889. Keiser University won the tournament easily with an 841.

Matt Gauntlett finished tied for 20th overall after shooting a 2-over 73 in the final round to finish at 8 over for the tournament. Brandon Boncore and John Houchin both finished tied for 28th overall and Drew Lanier shot even par in the final round to tie for 32nd overall. Murphy Allard shot a 78 in the final round.

“Good solid play by Lanier and Gauntlett and steady play by Boncore today,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “Scoring was a struggle for all as we did not hole our birdie opportunities when we had them.”

The men’s golf team will play in the Central Alabama Fall Invitational on October 4-5.
