Daytona State College has announced the hiring of Nashad Mackey as the Falcons’ new assistant men’s basketball coach.  This is a homecoming for Mackey who graduated from Daytona State in 2017 after a stellar academic and playing career for the Falcons.

Mackey is one the most decorated players to ever walk the halls at Daytona State College.  His numerous accolades include: 1st Team All Conference, All Region Team, JUCO All American, and Conference Player of the Year.

Mackey’s success continued at ERAU where he is the only Eagle to average a double-double during his career there.  He was a two time Sunshine State Conference performer.  His name is listed six times on the single season record book including the top spot in both rebounds (350 in 2017-2018) and rebounding average (12.5 rpg in 2017-2018) and second on the alltime free throw percentage (.870).

Mackey joins the Falcons from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he served under legendary and NAIA Hall of Fame inductee Steve Ridder since 2020.

While at ERAU, Mackey helped lead the team to a 24-10 record in 2021-2022 and reached the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen.  Mackey worked with Coach Ridder to develop individual personal and academic development plans, evaluate and recruit student-athletes, analyze opponent film and preparation of game plans.  He also coordinated and organized team travel and led team community service outreach.

A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Mackey has been a member of the Bahamas Men’s National Team.  He participated in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2020 and 2022 FIBA Americup Qualifiers.

Mackey earned his Associate of Arts degree with Honors from Daytona State College in 2017.  He then attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Factors Psychology in 2019 and a Master of Science in Leadership Degree in 2022.

Mackey and his wife Simone have two children, Noah and Malayah.
