Following a memorable 2021-22 in which 10 programs reached NCAA postseason play, the Nova Southeastern athletic department and its student-athletes have also capped the academic year on a high note by concluding the winter semester with an impressive overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.39.

The mark gives the department a collective GPA of 3.41 for the entire academic year.

The latest run of success extends NSU’s streak of consecutive semesters with a departmental GPA of a 3.00 and above to 24. Overall, 79 percent of all student-athletes earned a GPA of higher than a 3.00, with 44 student-athletes producing perfect 4.00 GPAs – a new department record.

Additionally, 15 of NSU’s 16 athletic programs earned a team GPA above a 3.00, while 91 student-athletes completed their degrees.

“Shark student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom at unprecedented levels,” said NSU Senior Woman Administrator, Title IX Coordinator and Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services, Rachel Fineberg. “On behalf of our NSU Athletics administration and our coaches, we are all extremely proud of the academic successes of our student-athletes. Their dedication to excellence is what makes them champions on and off the field and it’s only fitting that we would cap off a stellar year athletically with another record year academically.”

Leading the way academically, the women’s golf team topped all NSU programs with an outstanding GPA of 3.72. On the men’s side, the Sunshine State Conference and Super Region 2 champion men’s soccer team proved to be the top male program within the department, finishing with a GPA of 3.70 – the program’s highest semester GPA on record.

In addition, two other teams exceeded a 3.50 team GPA – women’s tennis (3.71) and volleyball (3.60). Men’s swimming raised the bar with a new semester team GPA record of 3.43.

Another impressive semester runs the count to 12 consecutive semesters in which NSU student-athletes have collectively exceeded a 3.20 GPA.
