Over 20 MLB organizations were represent as the best of B-CU Baseball showcased their skills for the Wildcats annual Scout Day, Wednesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

“I think it’s great for our guys,” Wildcats head coach Jonathan Hernandez said. “To have over 20 scouts come out and see the talent that we have here at Bethune-Cookman – I think that’s huge for our program.”

Hernandez was pleased with the turnout for the annual event.

“I think it speaks volumes on the recruiting we’re doing and the development of the players we have here,” Hernandez said.” From my first year here, the talent and development has gotten better – that comes with experience.”

Scout day can be nerve-racking day for student-athletes looking to take their game to the professional level. Hernandez encouraged his guys to keep things relaxed.

“It’s just another day at the ballpark,” Hernandez said. “You’re punching the clock, just like a practice routine. You can’t try to do too much. The biggest thing I tell our guys – today is not a day where they have to make a decision on whether or not you get to play professional baseball. It’s about making the most of the experience.”

The Wildcats are set for a fall scrimmage at UCF next week. Hernandez assessed his team just a few months ahead of the 2023 season.

“These guys love to work,” Hernandez said. “That’s not to say that any other team doesn’t, but it’s definitely a different mindset. We fell short of our goal last year in capturing our first SWAC Championship. The mindset with our returners is ‘finish.’ In everything we do – in the classroom, weight room, and on the field, we have to finish.”
