Nova Southeastern University issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.

The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America’s (CSCAA) announced the candidates for its centennial list of 100 Greatest Swimmers & Divers. Nine hundred and seventy-three (973) candidates, dating back over 100 years, were selected from 2,805 nominees. They will now go to a Blue-Ribbon Panel who will be charged with narrowing the selections to 100 men and 100 women. In total, 221 schools had at least one athlete named a finalist; of the nominees, 739 were swimmers and 234 were divers.  

Nova Southeastern Men’s Swimming had two former swimmers recognized as finalists for the honor, as both Anton Lobanov and Thiago Sickert were honored.  

Lobanov is one of the most decorated swimmers of all-time at Nova Southeastern, winning six individual national championships from 2014-2017. In 2014, Lobanov set the NCAA Division II and NSU record in the 100-yard breaststroke (51.63) and 200-yard breaststroke (1:51.71). Additionally in his freshman year, Anton earned SSC Men’s Freshman of the Year honors, 200/400 free relay All-American honors, and a 200-yard medley relay Honorable Mention. Lobanov followed up his excellent freshman year campaign with two more NCAA Division II National Championships in the 100/200-yard breaststroke, and earned five NCAA All-American honors.  

As a junior, Lobanov was named the Sunshine State Conference Swimmer and Overall Athlete of the Year, earning his fifth and sixth NCAA National Champion titles.  

Sickert swam alongside Lobanov from 2014-17, winning three NCAA National Championships in his career. In his first year at NSU, Thiago was named the SSC Men’s Swimmer of the Year, adding NCAA All-American honors in the 200-fly, 100-free, 200-free, 50-free, 800-free, and 400-freestyle. At the NCAA National Championship, Sickert won the 100 (43.18) and 200 (1:35.07) freestyle, while also racing in the 200-yard butterfly; third in the 50-yard freestyle; third in the 40-freestyle and third in the 800-yard freestyle. Sickert earned 18 individual wins in the 2014-15 season.  

In his junior year, Sickert claimed the NCAA Division II National Championship in the 200-yard butterfly (1:44.69) and helped guide the Sharks to a third-place finish as part of the 800-yard freestyle team. Sickert earned his second consecutive Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Year award, and eared SSC Male Swimmer of the Meet at the SSC Championships in addition to being named to the All-SSC First Team, while earning seven NCAA All-American honors.
