Nova Southeastern University recently issued the following announcement.

The Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Basketball team finished the 2021 slate of games with a 67-60 defeat against the Buccaneers of Barry on Friday afternoon. NSU finishes 2021 with a 7-5 record, going 2-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. Both McKenah Peters and Grace Gilmore scored 16 points for NSU.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

1ST QUARTER – McKenah Peters scored five consecutive points for NSU and was followed by a Sh’Naya Anderson lay-up to give the Sharks a 9-8 lead. Barry rallied for five straight points, taking a 13-9 advantage, but MaKenna Drabick added a lay-up, bringing NSU within two. Barry closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run, as BU led 21-13.  

2ND QUARTER – Grace Gilmore scored four consecutive points for NSU, making a lay-up and converting two free throws to put the score at 26-17. With 3:02 left in the first half, Gilmore once again added points, hitting a three-pointer. The Sharks trailed at halftime 36-29.  

3RD QUARTER – India Shepherd made a three-pointer, off an assist from Madeline Hardy, bringing Nova Southeastern back within four points. A 9-0 run by NSU, capped off by a Gilmore three-point make, gave the Sharks a 41-38 lead over Barry. Keanna Williams forced a turnover by stealing a pass, which set up free throw attempts for Peters with less than a minute remaining in the third. NSU went into the final quarter holding on to a 46-45 lead. 

4TH QUARTER – Peters intercepted a pass and went coast-to-coast making a lay-up and converting an and-one and extending the Sharks lead to 49-45. Midway through the final quarter, Peters and Williams both knocked down free throws, keeping the NSU advantage at three-points 55-52. Barry closed out the game from the free throw line as the Sharks fell in SSC action, 67-60.  

UP NEXT 

The Sharks open 2022 with a Sunshine State Conference tilt against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle on Sun., Jan. 2, from the Shark Tank. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
