HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter – Hailey Conley got it started for NSU by converting a driving layup. Then midway through the quarter, Tampa went on an 8-0 run to give themselves a 14-6 lead. However, three-pointers by Zeyno Seren and Conley cut the Sharks deficit to two. The Spartans were able to hold on to the lead heading into the second quarter.

Second Quarter – The Sharks came out strong, thanks to back-to-back layups by Kyannah Grant and Sarei McGill, giving NSU their first lead of the game. Both teams continued to battle throughout the rest of the quarter. As time winded down heading into the break, the Spartans knocked down a pair of jumpers to take a three-point lead at the half.

Third Quarter – With just under six minutes remaining in the quarter, back-to-back three-pointers by Mackenzie Steele and Madison Frederick gave the Sharks a 52-47 lead. NSU held the lead for most of the quarter but a last-second layup by the Spartans pushed them in front by one point heading into the final frame.

Fourth Quarter – At the three-minute mark, Tampa held on to an eight-point lead, but the Sharks would not go away. Rattling six straight points to bring the game within two, featuring baskets from Conley, Frederick, and Skyla Osceola. NSU continued to fight until the end but fell short, dropping tonight’s SSC matchup to Tampa 78-77.
