Nova Southeastern University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 22.
On a rainy night at the NSU Soccer Complex, ninth-ranked Nova Southeastern let a result against No. 15 Lynn slip through its grasp, as the Sharks’ early lead wasn’t enough to hold off the Fighting Knights in an eventual 2-1 setback in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In a highly-anticipated Sunshine State Conference opener for the Sharks, Matty Cornish dialed up the match’s first score just 3:41 into the contest following an assist from Nick Brisevac.
Some nifty footwork by Aleks Berg through the heart of the Lynn defense set up NSU with another legitimate scoring chance in the 19th minute. However, an ensuing Milos Christoforou shot attempt missed just wide of the left post.
The Lynn attack was held in check for the majority of the first half until the Fighting Knights ripped off two consecutive shot attempts in the 38th minute, the latter needing to be cleared off the line by NSU defender Odei Arrieta.
NSU still led 1-0 into the 56th minute, but soon saw the match draw even after a looping ball played in by Lynn’s Alexandre Horveno was settled and drilled into the back of the net by Kyle Patton.
The Sharks ramped up the pressure down the stretch of regulation, creating one last scoring opportunity in the final seconds, only to watch Michael Lawrence’s near-game winner narrowly miss wide of the right post.
Before the crowd could even resettle at the start of the first overtime period, it was Horveno again creating for the Fighting Knights, this time linking up with Lukas Ostermann for a beautiful golden goal from the top of the box in the 92nd minute.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
Cornish has now scored in three consecutive matches.
Both NSU and Lynn entered the night as two of three SSC teams ranked among the nation’s Top-25 – the other being No. 3 PBA.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
NSU held a 12-9 shot advantage, yet only two of those were put on target.
NSU keeper Alberto Ciroi collected four saves in the losing effort.
