Eastern Florida State College recently issued the following announcement.

The Eastern Florida State College softball team got another strong outing from Mandy Hedetniema-Taylor as the Titans picked up a 7-1 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader with Daytona State College.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, the Titans got things started fast as Kayla Domon singled, stole second and advanced to third on Brooke Theisen’s single. Theisen would steal second and both would score on Makenzie Fore‘s single. Molly Reid would double, putting runners on second and third with nobody out. Grasyn Holland and Kaitlyn Wilson each hit sacrifice flies to give the Titans a 4-0 lead.

Fore would single and score in the third inning to give the Titans a 5-0 lead. Back-to-back doubles in the fourth by Fore and Reid plate another run and Wilson scored the seventh run when she singled and scored on an error.

Meanwhile Hedetniema-Taylor did not allow a run until the sixth inning, getting out of jams in the second, fourth and fifth innings before allowing her only run of the game in the sixth inning. Hedetniema-Taylor struck out six to pick up her second win of the season.

Offensively, Fore went 3-for-3 with two RBI and scored twice while Domon, Theisen, Wilson and Sarah Leach each had two hits in the win.

In Game 2, the two teams combined for 23 runs and 23 hits as Daytona State College would plate three in the top of the seventh inning to post the 13-10 win.

After Daytona State scored in the top of the first inning, Molly Reid hit a tw-run Inside-The-Park home run to give the Titans a 2-1 lead. A couple of Titans errors led to two runs in the third inning for the Falcons. But once again the Titans would take the lead back as Reid ripped a two-run single.

Up 4-3 in the fourth inning, Daytona State would take the lead by scoring three times. Courtney Stout came up with two on in the bottom of the fourth inning and ripped a two-run triple and would score on a wild pitch to give the Titans a 7-6 lead.

Daytona State would string together four hits and end up scoring three times to once again lead, 9-7.

But once again Eastern Florida State College would grab the lead back as Grasyn Holland hit a bases-clearing double to score three runs and take a 10-9 lead.

Daytona State College would not be denied the split, scoring four more runs in the seventh inning to pick up the 13-10 win.

Reid drove in five runs while Holland drove in three runs and Stout drove in two for the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College (2-4) will host Seminole State College on Tuesday with the first game of the doubleheader begining at 4 p.m.
