Eastern Florida State College issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team picked up a win on Sophomore Day Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.

The Titans defeated the State College of Florida-Manatee in three sets, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19.

The five sophomores were honored before the match and then took the court for one of the final times at Titan Field House. SCF-Manatee battled point for point in the first set and took a 21-19 lead before sophomores Giselle Giraud had a couple of kills and Janleen De Jesus served out the first set as the Titans finished on a 6-1 run.

Sophomore Charlette Ayala had an ace to give the Titans an early lead in the second set and Desiree Cruz had a kill to give EFSC a lead for good. Once again, De Jesus found herself serving for the set and this time hit an ace to put the Titans up 2-0.

De Jesus took the ball to start the third set and continued her strong service game, jumping out to a 9-0 lead. From there, the Titans continued to hold onto the lead throughout to post the straight set victory.

Giraud led the way with 20 kills, six digs and an ace to give her over 200 kills for the second straight season. It is the second time that the sophomore has had 20-plus kills in a match this season.

Fabiola Rivera had seven kills and Cruz had five kills, while De Jesus had 31 assists, six digs and three aces in the match.

The Titans will travel to Florida Southwestern on Tuesday to play the No. 1 Bucs at 6 p.m. in Fort Myers.
