Wildcats Down Bulldogs in Return to Daytona Beach

Bethune-Cookman University issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.

A return to Daytona Beach was all the Wildcats needed to for their first win of the 2021-22 season, as Bethune-Cookman took down the Bryant Bulldogs, 81-75 at the Ocean Center. Head coach Reggie Theus notches his first win as a Wildcat with the victory.

Summary

The Wildcats (1-3, 0-0 SWAC) quickly feel behind, 6-0, to open the afternoon and trailed 18-11 halfway through the first half. From there, the Wildcats surged back, taking a 22-21 lead only three minutes later. They hardly looked back.

B-CU led by as much as 44-35 in the second half. Bryant (1-3, 0-0 NEC) threatened a comeback, even taking the lead with less than seven minutes remaining, but that would be all for the Bulldogs. B-CU shut the door with a late 6-0 run.

Offense Breaks Through

81 points marks the Wildcats largest total of the season – the largest by 26 points. It took a complete Wildcats' effort to reach that mark.

For the second time this season, four Wildcats scored in double figures. Dylan Robertson led all scorers with 21. Joe French followed with 20. Marcus Garrett and Collins Joseph finished with 11 and 10, respectively. Robertson, French, and Garett shot a combined 22 for 33 – 66 percent -  in the game.

Damani McEntire led the Wildcats with nine rebounds, while Joseph added seven. Jakolby Long led with 5 assists.

The Wildcats shot 6-13 from behind the arc and 13-17 from the free-throw line in the contest.

B-CU had to overcome five double-digit scorers for the Bulldogs, who were led offensively by Adham Eleeda's 17 points. The Bulldogs shot 44 percent from the field and 32 percent from three in the game

The Wildcats took advantage of 14 offensive rebounds, converting them into 17 second-chance points.

Points in the paint were key to B-CU's success – 42 of the Wildcats 81 points came in the paint – 26 of those points came in the second half.

 The Slam Continues

Following the results of Saturday's slate, Bethune-Cookman is now scheduled to take on Air Force, following the Falcons' win over Holy Cross Saturday afternoon. Sunday's game is scheduled to tipoff at 2:30 p.m.

Scouting the Falcons

Air Force (3-1, 0-0 Mountain West) dominated Holy Cross in a 72-53 win Saturday afternoon. AJ Walker led all scorers with 27 points as the Falcons shot 47% in the win.The Falcons are averaging 61 points per game this season. Walker leads the Falcons averaging over 15 points per game, and Ethan Taylor leads with 5.5 rebounds per game.

Sunday's game marks the first ever meeting between Bethune-Cookman and Air Force.
