Sharks Swimming Earns SSC Dual Win over Lynn

Nova Southeastern University recently issued the following announcement.

Nova Southeastern Sharks Men's and Women's Swimming programs both earned victories in a Sunshine State Conference Dual Meet on Friday afternoon from the NSU Aquatics Center. The Sharks men's team won 175.50 – 86.50, while the women's program was victorious 172 – 90. Cassandra Wright led the way for the Sharks women's side, earning two individual wins (50-free/200-back) and Olle Williamsson added two solo wins in the 100/200-breaststroke.

HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN)

  • Thomas Flower picked up the first Sharks men's victory of the afternoon, taking first place in the 200-freestyle (1:40.25). Luca Alessandrini (2nd/1:42.07), and Jarryd Baxter (3rd/1:42.99) both placed in the top-three for NSU.
  • Williamsson's first win of the afternoon came in the 100-breaststroke, winning in 58.83.
  • Alessandrini, the reigning Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Week, claimed the win in the 200-butterfly, completing the race in 1:52.19.
  • Steven Aimable won the 50-free on the men's side, finishing in 21.03.
  • Baxter added an individual win in the 100-free for the Sharks, taking the victory in 46.92.
  • Spencer Hohm easily won the 200-back, earning the win in 1:56.49.
  • Williamsson's second solo win came in the 200-breaststroke for the Sharks, as he finished in 2:08.36.
  • Thomas Flower, Hemminghyth, Alessandrini, and Aimable closed the dual with a victory in the 4x100 relay, taking the victory by almost four seconds.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN)

  • Celina Marquez, Savanna Best, Aleksandra Maslova, and Amilia Nusbaum started the meet with a victory for the Sharks in the 200-medley relay. Nusbaum finished with the quickest time (24.63s).
  • Estelle Bauer followed with a win in the 1,000-freestyle, completing the race in 10:35.11 and winning by nine seconds.
  • Marquez tallied her first individual victory in the 100-backstroke, finishing in 56.28.
  • May Lowy took the win in the 200-butterfly (2:04.35), finishing five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
  • Wright's (24.35) first solo victory came in the 50-free, as the senior narrowly edged out teammate Solana Capalbo (24.92).
  • Wright followed with the win in the 200-back for her second win of the afternoon.
  • Best took the victory in the 200-breaststroke, taking the win in 2:21.50.
  • Victoria Ortiz won the 500-freestyle, adding another victory for the Sharks.
  • Maslova earned the win in the 100-butterfly, finishing in 55.77.

 UP NEXT

Nova Southeastern Swimming hosts Sunshine State Conference foe, Florida Southern, in the final home meet of the 2021-22 season on Fri., Jan 21, from the NSU Aquatic Center. Prior to the meet, Nova Southeastern Athletics will honor the Sharks Senior Class of Laurel Galludet, Allison Kopas, Aleksandra Maslova, Amilia Nusbaum, Hannah Trieschmann, Cassandra Wright, Rafaele Chambasian, Martin Hemminghyth, Spencer Hohm, Benjamin Moers, Evan Weber, and Alessandro Xella.
