Six Patriots Make All Tournament Team - Marty Smith Named FCSAA Baseball Coach of the Year

2

The College of Central Florida had six players named to the All Tournament Team after winning the State Title 4-3 over Miami Dade.

Sam Swygert stepped up and pitched 6 shutout innings on Sunday to complete the game and secure victory for the Pats. In the four games Central Florida played in Lakeland Sam threw 7.1 innings, striking out nine batters and surrendering only six hits while not giving up a single run. He was honored with the Robert Perky Memorial Award for The Tournament's Most Outstanding Pitcher.

Infielder Edrick Felix was honored with the Bob Zelinski Award for The Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Bob Zelinski, our current Director of Athletics, was the state tournament director for many years and was honored to be there in his final year to see one of his own Patriot's earn the award. Felix went 7 for 15 in the four games with one home run, four doubles, three walks, and drove in a tournament leading nine runs.

Marty Smith, in his 28th season at the helm of CF Baseball, was honored with the FCSAA Coach of the Year. This is the third time Smith has led the Patriots to win the state and advance to the World Series in Grand Junction, CO. The Patriots won the title back to back years in 1997 and 1998 under Smith. The Patriots have been close to winning the title many times over the years. They lost in the Championship game in 2007 and have competed in the State Tournament five out of the last eight years.

Here is the complete list of Patriots who made the All Tournament team:

David Pereira - Catcher

Caleb Cali - Infielder

Edrick Felix - Infielder
