Dune Vegetation Project Information

Board

Please see the information provided by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) with regards to a dune vegetation project that is slated to begin on July 5th.  This project is different from both the Army Corps project and from the project that the County is undertaking with regards to Beach Renovation.  This project starts on A1A in Beverly Beach at Shelter Cove Drive and continues south through our City, and concludes in Ormond Beach at Spanish Waters Drive.

There are a lot of different beach/dune projects going on. This is the scope of this specific project;  New sand dune vegetation will be installed to fill in gaps and supplement existing vegetation. Plantings on this project will not disturb vegetation that is already there. Multiple species of dune vegetation, such as Simpson’s Stopper, Silver Saw Palmetto, Blanket Flower, Dune Sunflower, Railroad Vine, Beach Elder, and Sea Oats will be installed at various areas throughout the project limits. Vegetation may be substituted as needed depending on the availability of materials. Any substitutions will be vetted through an approval process before installation. All vegetation will be native to the state of Florida and able to withstand the coastal dune environment.
