The No. 1 ranked Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will take the field for the first time this season Saturday evening.
The Titans, who won the NJCAA Division I National Championship last season, will play No. 4 Salt Lake Community College at 6 p.m. Saturday at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.
The women's soccer team has 11 players back from last season's national championship team and after a strong preseason they begin the regular season with a tough Salt Lake Community College team on the opening weekend. Last season the teams tied 0-0 in Utah.
Salt Lake Community College will also be opening their regular season on Saturday after Thursday's opener against Daytona State College was cancelled due to rain. The Bruins have 11 sophomores on the roster this season.
The two teams have some history as they met in the NJCAA Division I National Championship semifinals with the Bruins handing the Titans the only loss of the season, 1-0. Salt Lake Community College lost in the championship game that season.
Saturday's game is the first of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team playing Salt Lake CC in the second game of the evening. Admission to Orlando Health Stadium is free and fans can watch the game live on the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
