Taking on the defending NJCAA National Champions, the Eastern Florida Titans, the Daytona State College women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision as the Titans netted the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute in a region game at Falcon Field in Daytona Beach. In a hard-fought contest, the Falcons (7-2-2) put 7 shots on the board but could not find the back of the net.
In goal for the Falcons, Lucia Guemes made 4 saves, with only one coming in the second half.
“This was a very competitive game that could have gone either way,” remarked head coach Hope Clark. “The finished one more opportunity than us and made it count, we needed to take care of our chances in a tight game like this. We knew this was going to be a night that we could not leave anything on the field. I am very proud of our effort and fight for the 90 minutes today.”
Daytona State put the pressure on in the second half of play, out shooting the Titans 6-4, forcing two saves for the Eastern Florida goalkeeper.
The Falcons are back in action Wednesday, October 19th as they travel to play Polk State College at 4:00pm for the second round of Region 8 games.
