The 16th FINA World Swimming Championships are set to begin in Melbourne, Australia this week and two Nova Southeastern Sharks will represent not only the NSU Swimming programs, but also their home countries, as Steven Aimable and Celina Marquez will compete during the events.
Marquez, swimming for El Salvador, is no stranger to competing on an international level, having represented El Salvador at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the FINA Swimming World Cup in Canada earlier this year. Celina won the NCAA Division II National Championship for Nova
Southeastern in the 200 backstroke (1:55.79) and was a part of two NSU National Champion relay teams (200/400 medley relay) at the 2022 NCAA National Championships in May. Marquez will compete in the 100 and 200 backstroke at the FINA World Championships.
Aimable, representing Senegal, joined Marquez at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and returns to the FINA Swimming World Championships having last raced at the event in 2021. Aimable will be racing in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle during the FINA World Championships.
