At the regular scheduled City Commissioners meeting on March 14, 2023, the City Commissioners unanimously voted to lower the speed limit on Lake Shore Drive. Effective Monday, April 25, 2023, the speed limit will be reduced from 20 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour.

In addition to the speed limit change, additional signage will be posted advising motorists that speeds will be monitored by radar where violations will be enforced by the Madison Police Department.

The speed limit change was agreed upon based upon citizens input with concerns about excessive speed and the potential of harm to pedestrians, bicyclists and others that frequent the use of the designated areas around Lake Francis. Many of our citizens enjoy the ambiance and natural surroundings of the lake and park in various locations to enjoy the scenery.

Motorists are cautioned to safely park off of the roadway and not block the walking lane which causes pedestrians and others to involuntarily access the driving lanes around Lake Shore Drive during their movements. It is the sincere hope of City Officials and concerned citizens that motorists will be attentive and cooperative with the forthcoming change.
