Recap

The Wildcats (6-20, 6-9 SWAC) had a strong showing Wednesday night in a 3-1 victory against Alabama A&M. The Wildcats finished with 17 total blocks, led by eight block assists and two solo blocks from the SWAC’s No. 1 blocker, Alleah Dallas. Malina Spencer, Niara Hightower, and Jasmine Moore each contributed to the massive block total, and Moore led the Wildcats with 11 kills.

Scouting the Hornets

The Hornets enter play on Friday off of a straight-sets loss to Jackson State on Monday. Alabama State had won their previous ten straight. The Hornets rank third in the SWAC with a .197 hitting percentage as a team this season. They are the third-best blocking team in the conference, swatting 1.77 blocks per set.

Kalysia Bates ranks fourth in the conference with a .321 hitting percentage, fourth in blocks per set with .85, and third in total points with 331.

Last Time

Alabama State defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-1 back on Oct. 15 at Moore Gymnasium. B-CU’s Spencer hit .688 in the game with 12 kills, but the Wildcats could not overcome the Hornets, who were led by 28 kills from Bates.

Wildcats Notes

After ten blocks Wednesday night, Dallas now leads the SWAC in total blocks with 95. Dallas holds the lead despite playing the fewest total sets out of the SWAC’s top four blockers.

Only two players in the SWAC have totaled ten blocks in a single game this season – Dallas has done it twice.

Spencer and Hightower also find themselves among the SWAC’s top ten blockers both in total blocks and blocks per set.
