Bethune-Cookman baseball had its diligence in the classroom recognized this week, as the Wildcats were one of 420 collegiate programs to receive the 2021-22 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, the ABCA announced Wednesday.

This is the second straight year B-CU baseball has received the honor. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year’s award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2021-22 academic year.

Wildcats head coach Jonathan Hernandez applauded the efforts of his squad in the classroom.

“I am beyond proud of how well our student athletes were able to thrive throughout this past academic year,” Hernandez said. “With so much going on for our program, including a conference change, our student-athletes were able to maintain a level of focus needed to achieve our academic goals. We appreciate the continued support of our Office of Student-Athlete services and their commitment to the academic success of our athletes. “
