Women’s basketball team hits road looking for 12th straight win

Eastern Florida State College recently issued the following announcement.

The Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team will travel to Daytona State College looking to win their 12th game in a row.

The Titans, who are now 23-3 overall and 10-0 in the Central Conference, come into the matchup No. 16 in the NJCAA Division I poll. Eastern Florida State College will tie the regular season win record with a victory on Saturday.

Daytona State College comes into the matchup 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference and have won three straight to take over second place in the standings. Kierra Wheeler is averaging 12.8 points while Kimeira Burks, Tanyia Gordon and Shayla Bouie are scoring 11 points per game on the season.

Eastern Florida State College is leading Region VIII in scoring this season, averaging 76.6 points per game. The Titans have three players averaging 10 points or more per game and five players are averaging seven points or more per game.

Rapuluchi Ngorka is averaging 14 points and 12.8 rebounds per game this season and is leading Region VIII in rebounds per game and is second to her teammate L’or Eyeba Mputu in field goal percentage. Mputu is shooting 60.3 percent from the floor this season while Ngorka is shooting 56.7 percent. Mputu is averaging 9.9 points per game and six rebounds off the bench.

Shadaria Smith is averaging 13 points per game and is fourth in the state in 3-point percentage, hitting 38.8 percent of her 3-pointers.

Saturday’s game will tip off at 2 p.m. at Daytona State College and can be watched live online at the Daytona State College YouTube page.
