Eastern Florida State College issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.

The Eastern Florida State College women’s volleyball team lost in straight sets for the first time this season, falling to No. 2 Florida Southwestern State College Thursday night at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans lost 25-12, 25-15, 25-11 to fall to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Suncoast Conference.

Eastern Florida State College got off to a nice start, taking a 3-0 lead and trailed 9-7 before a couple of big Florida Southwestern runs put the set away.

Florida Southwestern showed why they are No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, taking big leads early in both the second and third sets to pick up the win, their seventh of the season.

The Titans looked like they may get back into the second set, going on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 15-10 but that was as close as they would get.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Indian River State College Saturday afternoon to play the Pioneers who are 3-2 in the conference. The Titans will be back at Titan Field House Tuesday night to play Santa Fe College at 6 p.m.
